Promoted in 1833 as Royal Bank of London &
Westminster, this bank opened in March 1834 under the title of
London & Westminster Bank, with a head office in Throgmorton
Street, City of London, and an additional branch in the West End
at Waterloo Place.
It was the first joint stock bank to be established
in London. By 1838 the head office had moved to new premises at
41 Lothbury and the West End office to 1 St James’ Square.
