Manchester Commonwealth Stadium

When the XVII Commonwealth Games began on 25 July 2002, the City of Manchester Stadium, which was built by contractors, Laing O'Rourke and designed by Arup Associates, had a capacity of 38,000. mpg carried out M & E quantity surveying services for the M&E Sub-contractor. The design of the stadium, with its eight masts and cable structure, ensured that all seats have uninterrupted views of the sport area. There are large circular walkways on the exterior of the stadium that are used by spectators to reach the upper tiers.

As soon as the Games were over in August 2002, the contractors returned to site and began the conversion process, which included excavating the track and grass field to a depth of 6m to provide an additional tier of seating. This has increased the capacity to 48,500 and the Stadium is now the home of Manchester City Football Club.
