Work started in 1995 to expand Dubal’s aluminium smelting facility 35km south of Dubai, making it one of the largest producers in the world. This smelting facility construction has been undertaken in two phases called Falcon and Condor. Falcon involved two 110MW open cycle gas turbine units and one extra potline, which increased production which more than doubled to 530,000 tonnes. The Falcon stage was completed in 2000 in readiness for the Condor phase commencing.
