Charing Cross Hospital, is a 19-storey block building which is also one of the main teaching centers for Imperial College, but the building already has serious structural problems and will cost an estimated £100m to upgrade.

Major refurbishment of main entrance including reception, waiting areas, flooring, lighting and redecoration has taken place. The work was carried out whilst the hospital was in use 24/7. Further refurbishment work is planned over the next 10 years.

In order to commence the upgrade of Charing Cross Hospital five companies were shortlisted in 2001 to build a £9m mental health unit.
