After his solid run in the GTC class
Porsche 996 of Team RPM at
Rockingham, Bilimoria was all set to
climb aboard his 997 GT3 for this
weekend’s upcoming race at Brands
Hatch. However, the gearbox
problems that plagued the young
Indian in testing at Rockingham have
not yet been resolved due a shortage of parts from Porsche, leaving him with no seat.
Team RPM have worked extremely hard to try and find a solution but with all the Porsche Carrera Cup cars heading off to Knockhill in a weeks time there are no new gearboxes or
spare parts available, leaving his 997GT3 unable to run this weekend.
A late call from Allen Orchard at Emotional Engineering has resolved the situation. The MPG
sponsored driver will now be driving the No 6 Vauxhall Monaro partnering Steve Hyde for the
next two races at Brands Hatch this weekend. Asked why he made the switch with drivers -
“We have had a very fluid situation with the team over the past few races and when we
heard Phiroze was available and after his stunning performance last weekend, we were
delighted to have him on board” said Orchard.
“Unfortunately we could not get a replacement gearbox for the 997 GT3 car this weekend,
but the call from Allen was a welcome solution. I’ve known Allen for a while and I am really
looking forward to working with him and getting in the car. This is a great opportunity to run
in the top class of the Championship” said Bilimoria.
Michael Gallucci of MPG said “Being thrown in at the deep end is not alien to Phiroze; after all
he only drove RPM’S spare 996 GTC car in last weekend’s race for the first time when he took
it over from Nigel Redwood in the middle of race one and we still finished in the top 5! We’re
all behind him and are really looking forward to great race this weekend!” |
